Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. Some good, some great, some not so good. I’ll try to break through what mattered, and what not to overreact to. So here’s 3 things from Week 10’s 56-20 win over Riverside
1-Depth – We have it. I’ve been very very impressed with our next man up mentality all year. We have been battling so many injuries and the man comes in and we don’t miss a beat. At one point Friday night, 6 players were sidelined due to injury and we kept scoring. Most notably when Trey Burke went out for a little bit, our offense kept on clicking. When he came back in, his TD strike to Justin Rice was absolute perfection. I’ve been impressed with our OL depth..Amir Howard is playing well. It’s great to have Weathers back…he was excellent Friday night.
2-7 rushing TDs in 1 game was fun to watch. Lynch, Sutton and Logan all found the end zone on the ground and it was fun to watch these guys run and run and run at Riverside…left, right, and right up the gut. The Vikings have 17 rushing TDs this season and when you look at the defense’s we’ve faced, that’s really impressive. Lynch now has 12 rushing TDs on the season after his 4 TD performance against Riverside.
3-56-20 over Riverside. Ok so that’s done…here we go. Spartanburg at Gaffney for the Region Championship. There’s nothing like High School Football and I can’t wait for Friday night. It’s important for the Vikings to clean up some mistakes such as these penalties that keep hurting us, discipline, and no mental mistakes. Gaffney is 7-1 this season and despite their struggles lately, they are still loaded with talent.
