Week 11 2A/3A Preview

Its the final week of the High School football season as normally the season ends in week 10 but because of Hurricane Helena the High School league pushed back the regular season one more week. The last week like always is determining a lot of teams’ seedings going into the playoffs, so let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A ranks.

Broome @ Woodruff

The Broome Centurions continue to slide in the wrong direction as they lost another game to drop to 0-3 inside region play and remain in last place after their loss to Chapman at Vikings stadium last week. It was another game where they fell behind and just didn’t have enough to push themselves back into the game. It was a chance for Broome to move up the standings now they are just trying to make it out of region play with a win.

Woodruff on the other hand continued to roll as they dominated just like they were expected to do against Union winning 42-15. Quarterback TJ Morris threw four touchdown passes in the win and the Wolverines would like another big day from him and their other playmakers.

Woodruff has been locked in since the start of the season and has been one of the most consistent teams and I just don’t see that changing, I look for Woodruff to win comfortably in this game. Broome will need to create some havoc on defense this week and that is something they just have not been able to do often this year.

MVP @ Union

Union as mentioned before were defeated easily last Friday night against Woodruff 42-15 so they are looking to bounce back and pull off a massive upset right before the playoffs begin. If Union wants to keep playing football this year they will have to pull off some upsets.

MVP was on a bye week a week ago so they will look to remain unbeaten inside region play this is their final tune-up before the playoffs so they want to make sure they are continuing to fire on all cylinders.

This is a matchup where the story is different for both teams, Union does have a few nice wins this year but ultimately they have struggled, while MVP has been another stroastrasphere with their play. I look for MVP to win big again, perhaps getting their stars out early and having them fresh for the playoffs.

Blacksburg @ Chesnee

The Chesnee Eagles looked good in a big region win against Landrum last week putting up 44 points against the Cardinal’s defense and went on to win 44-34. Now they will look to finish up region play at 3-1 and be the 2 seed in the playoffs with a win against Blacksburg

Blacksburg is coming off a loss to Liberty 45-22, so Blacksburg is trying to avoid going 0-4 in region play but that will be tough the way Chesnee is playing.

Chesnee was clicking on all cylinders last week as mentioned and I think that success will continue this week against Blacksburg that has been giving up some points 61 two weeks ago and as mentioned 45 points last week. I will look for Chesnee to clean some things up on defense and well and roll to a win.
