We came in with 7 teams in the 2A/3A regions in the playoffs and after round one, we are down to just three teams to try to bring home a state championship let’s take a look at the matchups in the 2A/3A
Walhalla @ MVP
MVP opened the first round of the playoffs against Carolina as you kind of figured they had zero problems against the Trojans and won easily 42-0 to advance. MVP continues to mow down everyone they face and they show no signs of slowing down.
Walhalla opened the playoffs against St. Joespehs and the game was a hard-fought battle, as these two teams went back and forth but in the end, it was Walhalla who was able to hang on beating St. Joespehs 36-35.
This game features two great Running backs with Jaylin McGill for MVP and Landon Robinson for Walhalla look for both teams to lean on these guys to make plays. The big difference here is MVP has plenty of weapons and Walhalla’s biggest threat is Robinson if the Stars can keep him in check they will roll to another win.
Woodruff @ Powdersville
This is looking like it will be an exciting matchup between two really solid teams. The Woodruff Wolverines were victorious in the opening round of the playoffs last week against Pendelton 28-21. That score was a lot closer than many of us were thinking but a win is a win and they will look to stay hot against Powdersville.
Powdersville cruised to a victory against Broome 37-13. They were pretty much in control of that game from beginning to end but they will have a harder matchup this week against Woodruff
I think both teams are evenly matched and both possess some strong firepower on offense. To me, its going to be what defense steps up and makes a few big plays will win this one.
Chesnee @ Fairfield Central
The Chesnee Eagles were involved in another close game that came down to the wire but once again the Eagles found a way to get into the end zone with a few minutes left and defeat ninety-six 26-21. Now the Eagles face a tough challenge this week going on the road to take on Fairfield Central
Fairfield Central opened the playoffs against Chesterfield and they smoked them 60-6. Fairfield is now 10-1 on the season and their only loss came in the opening week to Ridgeview. They are a team that is averaging 44 points per game offensively and only surrendering 12 points per game. Both sides of the ball they are dominate.
I do feel that Chensee will give anyone their best shot and will compete to the final whistle but they are overmatched here and I see Fairfield getting the win.
