In 2023 the Woodruff Wolverines finished the season 4-7 and had some really one-sided losses. It was Coach Brett Sloan’s first year back in the upstate where he played quarterback at Chapman and had also served as an offensive coordinator at Byrnes.
It was a rough first year, but heading into year two there was a lot of positive things working in the Wolverines favor. They had a returning quarterback, and many other solid returning players on both sides of the football. All of that plus a full season on learning a new system, had a lot of us thinking the Wolverines would have a better year.
And they did.
The Wolverines went from a 4-7 overall record last year to a final 9-2 record this season. Woodruff went 9-1 in the regular season including a win over 2A State Champion Clinton. The lone loss of the season came in a 2 point loss to MVP.
In year two under coach Brett Sloan Woodruff more than doubled their win total, and the offense really took off. QB TJ Morris led our area in passing while running back Aiden Gibson was second in the area in rushing and Kori Moates finished in the top 10 in receiving.
Congratulations to Woodruff on the great season and Congratulations to Coach Brett Sloan on being selected the Fox Sports Spartanburg Coach of the Year presented by Broad River Electric Cooperative.
