2025 Football Preview: Greer Yellow Jackets

The Greer Yellow Jackets are coming off a successful 2024 campaign as they went 7-5 overall on the year and finished second in their region with a 5-1 record. The only blemish in region play was against a loaded Daniel team, which would go on to win the region.

Greer won their opening round Playoff Game against Fountain Inn, but their season came to an end the next week as they were matched up against a strong South Pointe squad, where they were simply overmatched. The Yellow Jackets will look to build off the successful season from a year ago and will try to make a push to win their region and to make a deeper run in the playoffs this year.

Taking a look at the non-region schedule for this upcoming season, it’s worth noting that the Yellow Jackets always play a tough non-region schedule to help prepare them for the season, and that looks to be the case once again.

Greer opens the season on August 22nd at home against Boling Springs. The next week, on August 29th, the Yellow Jackets will be on the road to face BHP. Their third game of the year will be on the road against Hillcrest on September 5th. They finish their non-region schedule against Byrnes at home on September 12th. Greer knocked off Byrnes a year ago in a game which they completely dominated from start to finish.

The Region Schedule for the Yellow Jackets begins on September 19th and ends on Halloween. The games in that span are at home against Berea, on the road against Travelers Rest, at home against Pickens, on the road against Blue Ridge, on the road against Seneca, and then they finish up the regular season at home against the Daniel Lions and that game could be for the region title.

From the team a year ago, Greer is having to replace several key guys, like two quarterbacks, Kaden Rowland, who passed for 1,100 yards and 6 touchdowns, and Ty Breeze, who passed for just under 600 yards but rushed for 423 and had 11 total touchdowns.

Dawson Fowler will be a sophomore this year, and he did have some experience in his freshman year, passing for 127 yards, so he could be the guy behind center for the Yellow Jackets this year.

They are also replacing their running back Nick Holmes, who had over 1,3oo yards and 19 touchdowns. One thing about Greer is they have running backs that grow on trees out there, so as always, I expect them to plug and play another running back that will perform at a high level.

And that player can be Calvin McCoy, who will be a junior this year.  Last season, McCoy had 28 carries for 256 yards, so that is 9.1 yards per carry and he had six rushing touchdowns.

One thing the Yellow Jackets do have on the offensive side of the ball is a lot of their o-line returning, as four guys from their roster a year ago will be back, so look for the Yellow Jackets to lean on the experience of their offensive line this year.

On the defensive side of the ball for the Yellow Jackets they have several guys on the defensive line returning, such as seniors Aiden Jones, Paden Armstrong, and Luis Bussey.

They will also be returning in their secondary Noel Sitton, who as a Sophomore a year ago, showed that he can make plays as a defensive back as he led the team in having 4 interceptions and was able to return one in the end zone. The Yellow Jackets will love for him to continue to be a ball hawk.

They are replacing some linebackers such as Brody Diggins and Quamaine Dodd. Greer will be looking for someone like their senior linebacker Sammy White and Junior linebackers Raydon Elzy and Qua’von Wilson to step up this season.

Overall, I expect this Yellow Jacket team to compete for their region, if they can find a way to beat Daniel there is no question they should take care of business against everyone else in their region. This should be another successful year for Will Young and the Yellow Jackets as they should finish the season above 500.
