Broome

2025 Football Preview: Broome Centurions

Coach Lynn Fleming called it getting the bad taste out — shaking off a season that didn’t sit right and starting fresh.

After starting the season 3-3 with wins over Chesnee, Emerald, and Blacksburg and losses to some very good teams in BHP, Spartanburg and Powdersville. Then Hurricane Helene hit and cost Broome the rest of their “home” games due to the storm damage to Royal Stadium. That started a losing streak to end the season with losses to Union County, MVP, Chapman, Woodruff and in the playoffs to Powdersville.

Fleming and the Centurions return a lot of players on offense from last year, including a 1,000+ rusher Tyqwon Booker although he will be in a slightly different role for Broome this year. Booker moves out to to Wide Receiver. Jameson Dearybury returns as the signal caller this year, the Senior QB will look to improve on his Junior season for Broome. Senior Running Back Reece Waugerman makes a switch from wide receiver. Other skill position players to know for Broome this year will be Devon Brown, Asher Littlejohn and Corley Turner.

The offensive line for Broome is also a very experienced unit. Juniors Carson Taylor and Levi Bishop who played a lot as sophmores will be the anchor up front for the Centurions this season. Ricky McCullough, Eli Crow, Jackson Smith and Kelvin Crook all look to get a lot of playing time up front this season.

On Defense you will hear a lot of names already mentioned for offense. Ricky McCullough and Tyqwon Booker will two of the players up front for Broome’s Defense. Asher Littlejohn will be the leader on the defensive backfield. Chimar Hayes and Kelvin Crook are among a few of the Centurions who will be difference makers for Broome on defense this season.

Coach Fleming said “whether we are running or throwing it we got to get it in our players hands” as he looks to be very balanced on offense with multiple playmakers who can make a difference for them this year.

Broome looks to make a deeper playoff run than they have been able to in the past few years despite having some very talented teams. The draws they have gotten have been really tough, and they haven’t been able to get out of the 2nd round since 2004 (when they won the 2A state championship).

If you are wanting to see Broome in the preseason they will be in action August 7th at Landrum(vs Christ Church), then August 11th in Pendleton(Pendleton, Palmetto, Eastside), and August 15th in Gaffney (against Landrum).
