2025 will be year number 2 for MVP but in many ways it’s year number 1. It’s the first full offseason for the coaches and players together, it’s the first time Head Coach Grey Ramsey will not have Athletic Director duties, and it’s the first time there will be expectations on this team to succeed right away.
But – it’s not year 1..that was the 12-1 2024 run for the MVP Stars that fell to BHP in the Upper State Championship. It’s year 2 and like all programs, they have some starters to replace.
At QB, Bryson Drummond has graduated and taken his 1872 yards through the air with him. There’s a 3 way QB race for MVP. Returning Sr Brody Judd, incoming Dorman transfer Jr Makorean Anderson, and Sr A.J McAllister, a Safety last season, are all going to get a look. Head Coach Grey Ramsey says he doesn’t want this race to linger.
“We play BHP in a scrimmage on the 15th and after that we’d like to have a starter set before the 1st game.”
At Running Back, the big story over the offseason was rising Sr Jaylin McGill ended up graduating early to attend UNC.
“Everyone will soon know the name of Dillon McKey” Ramsey said.
The young sophomore is very explosive and will certainly be ready to step into the spotlight behind 5 returning starters on the OL.
WR KD Hainsworth, the leading receiver in yards in our area is back and will also see time in the backfield. The WR/RB room will also see star Safety Jacoby Smith get the ball in his hands some as well. There’s a room full of talent at the skill positions here including Boiling Springs transfer Savion Booker.
Defensively, the Stars return 9 of 11 starters including McAllister and Smith at Safety. MJ Jeter, a transfer from Byrnes will line up opposite Chase Henderson who started every game last year at CB.
MVP lost star LB Eli Smith but Jet Hodge will slide over to his spot to fill that role.
Ramsey said Des David Lewis and C.J Lovelace are “As good of DEs at the 3A level that I’ve ever seen.”
Overall this year will feel much different for Ramsey and his staff. While some Star players have graduated, the team certainly features a group that will no doubt notice a difference between year 1 and year 2.
One other note – it looks like all MVP home games for year 2 will be played at North Greenville. The MVP stadium is hoping to be completed before year 3.
