Light schedule this week with the majority of our 5A teams off before region play begins for them next week. The Byrnes Rebels the only 5A team in action this week. With the Vikings off this week I will be in Union for the Yellow Jackets battle with Blacksburg with Youth Football night on tap at Union County Stadium. Always fun to be at Union. Let’s take a look at the games we have in the area tonight.
Union vs Blacksburg-
Union came close to a win last last week against the York Cougars. Of course almost doesn’t count and the Jackers are hungry for a win. Really looks like the offense might be starting to come together. Quarterback QA Brannon finds himself near the top of the Ortholazer stat sheet in passing so far 31 of 67 for 449 yards and a couple of touchdowns, while wideout Akeem Shaw is the leading receiver in the stat sheet with 20 catches for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns. The big question for the Jackets for the last few years has been defense. Can the Jackets find a way to get some stops over Blacksburg, who was one of two teams they beat last year.
Last years game was possibly the wildest game, or at least ending of a game, that I have ever seen in football. I think the Jackets will take care of business tonight but it likely won’t be easy.
Pick-Union
Last year Greer beat Byrnes for the first time since 2000. More than two decades. No the teams didn’t play every year in that span but they did play a lot. Byrnes is coming off a tough hard fought loss to Irmo 35-32 two weeks ago and have had time to prepare for this group of Yellow Jackets. I think Byrnes offense really gets rolling tonight and is just too much for Greer.
Pick-Byrnes
Emerald had a 22-0 lead over Woodruff last week before the Wolverines rattled off 50 straight points to win 50-22. Will that linger for Emerald tonight against Broome? Broome’s Booker is a dude but I think Broome falls to a Viking team for a second week in a row.
Pick-Emerald
I like Clinton to roll over Chapman.
Evan Reece Lawter will be the man again tonight and Chesnee will beat R-S Central.
Woodruff will roll Woodmont.
MVP should have no real issue with Crescent.
Landrum will have no issue with Asheville Christian.
Not an overly exciting week this week, but as we mentioned before region play begins next week in 5A so things are getting ready to get serious. Hope you all have fun at the games tonight and remember to be kind and do something nice for someone this week. Lot of hate and evil in this world let’s do our part to try and make the world a better place!
