Another week of high school football. Nothing better than a Friday Night here in the upstate in the fall. Especially when we get some good rivalry games like we have this week. Let’s take a quick look at what we have tonight.
Gaffney at Spartanburg-
This is probably my favorite game of the year. Nothing like a good rivalry matchup with the Indians no matter who your team is. We all know that Gaffney is #EverybodysRival (trademark pending). With 18 State Titles they are always the team everyone wants to beat.
The Indians looked a lot better last week offensively. After finally settling on one quarterback the offense found some rhythm. The Indians had multiple touchdowns called back due to penalties so it could have been ever worse than it was. If they can get that cleaned up they will be very dangerous.
They key tonight for me will be Spartanburg’s offensive front versus Gaffney’s defensive front. We know Trenton Lynch can make things happen with just the smallest of creases. Can that offensive line open up some running lanes against what is usually a very tough Gaffney defensive front?
Dorman at Byrnes-
Another great rivalry in our area. Even before I started covering Football in Spartanburg I got my first taste of this rivalry many years ago now at Dorman. It is pretty heated and has seen some epic matchups. I think this one has the makings of another good one. Both teams are better than last year in my opinion. Byrnes is going to look to take away the run from the Cavs first and foremost. We may get a good look tonight to see if Dorman can really throw the football this year.
If Byrnes can make Dorman throw, I think they win.
Pick: Byrnes
I like Greer over TR tonight to move to 2-0 in region play.
Broome got it going last week and I think they will keep it really rolling this week and will trounce Blacksburg.
BHP will likely roll over Chapman.
Clinton, while not as good as last year, will beat Union County on homecoming for the Jackets.
I think Woodruff will keep it rolling over Wren.
I will take Blue Ridge over Landrum because a JV Girls Basketball (Mitch) coach told me to.
Eastside showed themselves to be hard nosed last week against the Vikings. Maybe Boiling Springs can use this a motivation if they see it. I’ll take Eastside.
As I have been reminding you each week, please be kind to each other and try to do something nice for someone this coming week.
