Week 7 Picks

This week is a good week of football. Several really big matchups across our area. Games that will definitely have impacts on playoff seeding, region championships, and much more. Not to mention two of the biggest rivalries in high school football.

Dorman at Spartanburg-

The City Rivalry. There isn’t much that compares to this. Farmers vs Preps. It always a fun time. I have seen some wild games in the short time I have been calling games for the Vikings and tonight will likely be no different. Dorman is a position where a win puts them in great shape toward a bye in the first round of the playoffs and potentially a region championship. The Vikings would love nothing more than to prevent that from happening.

Both of these teams have some weapons on offense.  The question for me is the defenses. Dorman defense has stood tall a lot this year, where the Vikings have had some struggles. Can the Vikings linebackers step up big tonight and slow down Nick Means and company and force Dorman into throwing situations. Can the Vikings find some offensive consistency? Trenton Lynch has been great but he will need some help for the Vikings to win tonight.

Byrnes at Gaffney-

There have been some epic battles between these two. Some great players have of course rolled through both of these schools over the years and they have been two of the most successful programs in SC football history. Who is going to step up tonight and make a name for themselves in this big matchup?

Maybe Tre Segarra?   The JR running back is averaging almost 113 yards per game so far this year. SR Qb Caine Rogers is throwing for nearly 170 yards per game. Can either of those guys have big games against a stiff Indian Defense?

Gaffney’s offense can really pound the football. Physical running game with QB Banks Bouton and SR RB Josiah Hill.  They may not be flashy and break a bunch of long runs but they will run over you. Byrnes defense will try to be aggressive and wrap these guys up in the backfield, but being overly aggressive can get you run over.

Plus the game is at Gaffney and that always makes a difference. Just ask Willie Korn. Ghosts and such.

Pick-Gaffney

Broome at Union-

Jackers won two games last year. This was one of them.

Jackets have some weapons on the offensive side of the football. Unfortunately the defense really struggles. Back to back games of giving up 60 plus.  Tyqwon Booker and Jameson Dearybury could have big nights tonight.

This could be a very high scoring game.

Pick-Broome

I like Clinton in a close one against Chesnee. This could be a region title game.

Boiling Springs gets on track tonight agains Wade Hampton.

MVP will beat Chapman.

Greer edges out Blue Ridge in what could be another high scoring game.

I like Landrum to start of 1-0 in region play tonight with a win against Blacksburg.

Season is really flying by. How is it week 7 already.  I hope you all have a great time at the games tonight and hopefully your team wins and it may be time for the concession stands to break out the Hot Chocolate and coffee. Brett will be watching lol. Join us tonight for the Friday Night Tailgate Show starting at 5:00 for our USC Union Concession Stand Report and much more!

Don’t forget to be kind to those you come in contact with again this week. Never know what someone is dealing with in their heart and mind. You may be the only smiling face someone sees. Encourage each other.
