Friday Night’s Spartanburg/Dorman game was as expected. This rivalry really never disappoints, but Friday’s game was an all time classic.
Spartanburg rushed out to a lead and looked like they may run away with it but then Dorman came back, even took the lead for a while before the game became tied late 30-30.
Spartanburg went down the field with the confidence that if they could get just across midfield that they would win the game. That confidence was possible because of the more than outstanding leg of Will Love the number 1 ranked kicker in the country.
And that is exactly what happened. The offense got it in position and Will Love boomed at 51 yard game winner as time expired to lift the Vikings to a 33-30 victory over the rival Cavaliers. Talk about the pressure, and in most of our minds there was never any doubt he’d make it. That kick alone is enough to make him our Electrifying player of the week for week 7.
But, he didn’t win this game alone.
Trenton Lynch has been consistent all year long. Entering Friday night he was averaging 160 yards per game on the ground agains some of the best defenses in the state.
This week Trenton carried the ball 28 times for 176 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns, while also catching 3 passes for 56 yards. Helping to lift the Vikings to victory over Dorman. Without him the Vikings don’t even get the chance for a game winning field goal.
In all the years we have been doing POTW awards here at the station we have never had a co-player of the week situation. This week it just felt right both of these guys were excellent and will go down in Spartanburg/Dorman rivalry history. It really was fun to watch.
Congratulations Trenton and Will on being our Electrifying Co-Players of the Week Presented by Broad River Electric Cooperative!
