The Regular season is winding down, as we only have a few matchups left, and we still have several big games to be played. Let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A ranks in our local listening area.
MVP @ Broome
The MVP stars will look to bounce back after their loss to Woodruff last week, 49-2,8 and the truth is that game wasn’t even that close; there were a couple of touchdowns added at the end for MVP, but this game was never in doubt as the Woliverines rolled to victory
Broome is coming off a bye week and, in their last meeting, defeated Union to secure their first region win of the year by a final score of 42-0. Broome has now won three out of their last four games, so they will look to stay hot and get the win.
Broome is coming into this game playing good football, and they would love to knock off MVP and move up in the standings, but I think MVP will have a bad taste in their mouth from last week, and I think they will be clicking on all cylinders, and I just feel they are the better team.
Chapman @ Woodruff
The Woodruff Wolverines are coming off a dominating performance against MVP last week, winning 49-28. That win put the Wolverines in a prime position to win the region. But they must take care of business this week against Chapman and avoid a letdown against a struggling team.
The Panthers picked up their first win of the year as they were trailing by a couple of scores last week and defeated Union by a final score of 30-27. Chapman has had a few opportunities to get a win this year, and they have let them slip away, so getting this win was big for their confidence.
If Woodruff is locked in, they will run away with this game. They are one of the best teams in our area, and I believe once again they will show why.
Cresecnt @ Chesnee
The Chesnee Eagles are coming off a loss last week in a big region game against Liberty, losing 35-6. If they were able to win it they would’ve put themselves in position to finish second in the region. Now they have back-to-back losses in region play, so they are trying to stop the bleeding against Crescent and just get back into the win column
Crescent is coming into this game with a 5-3 record and is 2-1 in their region. Their latest game, they took on a very good BHP squad and lost by a final score of 55-28. Similar opponents that Chesnee has played are Liberty, who Crescent beat by a final score of 34-27.
I believe Chesnee can compete with Crescent, but if they can’t stop the run, which has been an issue for them this season, then this game can get away from them.
Liberty @ Landrum
It has been a struggle in Landrum as of late, and things do not get easier as they are taking on a solid Liberty football team. Landrum was crushed last week to a strong Clinton team by a final score of 56-14. I saw a chunk of the game, and Clinton had a lot of room in space for the playmakers to work with. Those things must be cleaned up if they are going to turn it around.
Liberty as mentioned, beat up on Chensee last week 35-6. They were able to run up and down against Chensee all night long and defensively gave fits to an offense that can score points.
Landrum right now has not been able to find any rhythm on both sides of the ball, and Liberty has shown they can run the ball and wear out teams over the course of the game. I see Liberty winning this one comfortably, as I think their rushing attack will be too much to handle.
