Every week after a Spartanburg Viking Football game, I’m going to put my thoughts here on the 3 Biggest things I took away from our game last Friday Night. With that said, here are my thoughts on our Week 10 20-19 win over Riverside.
1-Let’s start with us and let’s begin with what has to be better…the mistakes. The penalties were down this game which is good but the turnovers were up. 4 total turnovers won’t win in the Playoffs. I’m glad the penalties were down..we only had 7 vs Riverside, but they have been an issue all season. It’s playoff time and it’s time to play cleaner.
2- Tip of the cap to Riverside QB Gideon Mirhib. He was outstanding at extending plays and making the plays they needed. I thought he wore out our defense and the run lanes opened up plate. HOWEVER!!!! I’m so proud of our defense. This group is very beat up and played 75 snaps Friday night…yet held Riverside to 19 points. At the end of the game, Riverside had 1st and 10 inside our 20..and gained 0 yards on 3 plays. Nick Martin made a monster tackle and Sentel Hall Jr had another double digit tackling day. The Vikings had 7 TFL and 5 sacks in the win. Big shoutout to Jacob Friedberg with 7 solo tackles and JP Peake who had 6 as well.
3- There you go Ruben Landrum!! The Vikings have certainly missed our ALL EVERYTHING star in Trenton Lynch..but after a couple of fumbles, Landrum had the best half of his career when we needed it. 21 carries for 178 yards Friday night in a game where if he doesn’t dominate the 2nd half, we don’t win. A career night for Landrum gave the Vikings an extra bump in playoff seeding. In several of the runs Friday night, Landrum read the hole perfectly and had several runs over 8 yards including a long of 33.
