There is nothing better than playoff football. Do or die. Win or go home. All the other playoff sayings. Week one isn’t always the best week but there are some potentially good games on the slate. Oh I forgot, the road to the state championship starts here….
Dorman and Byrnes will get their playoffs started next week as both of those teams earned first round byes. Landrum is the only team in our coverage area that didn’t make it into the playoffs. 10 games on the slate tonight.
Some of our first round games are rematches from the regular season…
Boiling Springs and Mauldin got together way back on September 29 with the Mavericks claiming a 21-14 win. Unfortunately Boiling Springs has been bitten hard by the injury bug since then and have really struggled. Mauldin has seen their struggles too but have lost to some decent teams. I like the Mavericks to win tonight and move on.
Gaffney squeaked one out against Eastside in early October winning 40-35 on the road at Eastside. That has been a continuing theme for Eastside in 2025 almost winning some big games but coming up just short. I think they will come up short again tonight against the Indians. Gaffney in the playoffs is a different animal.
I also like Crescent to knock off Union although I think it could be close. SS Christian will beat Chapman. I think Woodruff keeps things rolling against West Oak, and MVP will eliminate ST Joe’s. Pendleton and Broome is interesting to me but my gut tells me Pendleton.
Chesnee got a tough draw and will have to go to a tough place to win at Fairfield Central. I like the Griffins to win.
Greer makes the long drive down to Camden. The Jackets have not been good against good teams and that trend will continue tonight. Give me Camden.
I love the playoffs but I also hate them. It can be a very sad time for seniors who will play their final football games. Remember that as an opposing fan when your team eliminates another. Celebrate but don’t go to far remember these are kids. Let’s all have a good time!
We never know how many weeks we have left to sit under those Friday night lights so let’s not take them for granted. Be kind to others and do something kind for someone this week
