It’s the third week of the High School Football playoffs, and the two teams remaining in the 3A region in our area are the MVP Stars and the Woodruff Wolverines. Let’s take a look at their matchups for this Friday Night.
BHP @ Woodruff
This is going to be a fun game where two excellent teams will compete to secure their ticket to the Upper State title game. Woodruff is coming off a tightly contested game against Christ Church, which they survived by a final score of 40-37. Woodruff in the win put up over 500 yards of offense with their balanced attack, which is just a nightmare for teams to stop. But they had a hard time stopping Christ Church’s passing game as they threw for 380 yards. That must be cleaned up this week against a strong BHP team.
BHP has been on a roll and is entering this game unbeatean, but they simply have been demolishing teams this season. Last week, they played Southside Christian and won by a final 52-6. I mean, it was 21-0 in the first quarter, and you simply just knew that the game was over. BHP averages 51 points per game on offense and only surrenders 10 points per game, so they are deep on both sides of the ball.
I feel Woodruff is very talented, as I have said all year, but to win this game, they have to play their A game. I think they will give their best effort and will give them opportunities to win this game, but I am leaning toward BHP to win this one.
MVP @ Powdersville
The MVP Stars have found themselves in two straight nailbiters to begin the playoffs. They beat St. Joes in round one by a final score of 28-27. They took on Crescent for the second time this year, and Crescent gave them everything they could handle as the game went back and forth, but in the end,d MVP was able to hold on and win 50-49. But they have to clean up a lot this week as they are traveling to face a strong Powdersville team.
Powdersville is coming into this game with a lot of momentum; they are 10-2 overall and went 5-0 inside their region. They are also on a seven-game win streak. Last week, they took on Pendleton and beat them soundly by a final score of 30-7. They average 39 points per game and give up 21 points per game.
I think this will be a tightly contested matchup, and MVP has shown they have been able to close out games in the last few weeks, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull out another close one this Friday Night.
