After snapping their skid with a 6-2 win Thursday night, Hub City sent J’Briell Easley (0-0, 3.52 ERA) to the bump with the task of countering Greenville’s right handed ace Anthony Eyanson (0-0, 0.54).
Eyanson did his thing in the first inning, striking out the side — all swinging on 13 pitches. Easley countered with a three up three down frame, and after making it 4 K’s in a row, Eyanson issued his first walk of the season to Malcolm Moore. After ringing up Yeison Morrobel, Quincy Scott II made it two walks in the inning, but both were left on as Carter Garate went down swinging.
In the home half of the 2nd, Easley ran into trouble after issuing consecutive walks to Freili Encarnacion and Adonys Guzman followed by a single from Yophery Rodriguez to load the bases. Antonio Anderson made it back to back hits with an RBI knock, but Easley limited the damage to just the one run by getting the next three in order on a pop up to 2nd, a strikeout, and a fly ball to center.
Easley gave way to Joe Adametz after 2 innings, having struck out one, walked 2, and surrendered just the 1 run on 2 hits. Adametz kept the Drive at bay long enough for the offense to crack the scoreboard in the top of the 5th after Chandler Pollard, who entered in place of Arturo Disla in the 3rd, started a rally with a double off the Green Monster with 2 out off reliever Brandon Neely.
Rafe Perich followed with an RBI single, tying the game at 1. Paxton Kling also collected a base hit, but he was forced out 6 unassisted on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Malcolm Moore to retire the side.
After another scoreless frame for Adametz despite a single from Antonio Anderson with 2 out, Hub City strung together one of their best innings in over a week, sending 11 men to the plate and hanging a 6 spot on 6 hits and 2 walks to take a 7-1 lead.
In that inning, Morrobel collected two hits and 2 RBIs and also scored a run. Scott II also added a hit, RBI, and run scored. Garate notched his first hit of the season and subsequently his first as a Burger and scored a run. Antonis Macias also notched a knock and scored while Rafe Perich singled home 2 and scored in the frame. Paxton Kling drew a walk and scored while Moore added an RBI on a bases loaded walk.
In the end, Joe Adametz picked up the win, tossing 6 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts, no walks, and 5 hits. Mailon Felix finished off the game with a clean 9th as the Burgers evened the series to improve to 11-13 on the season.
Game 5 is set for 6:45 tomorrow night as Ismael Agreda (0-2, 6.19 ERA) faces left hander Shea Sprague (1-1, 4.61).
