Hub City got a familiar face back ahead of the third game of the series with Bowling Green on Thursday night. David Davalillo, who was the opening day starter for the Spartanburgers in 2025 and was with the team and was the Friday arm much of the first half of the season. With Hub City, he put together a 4-1 record and a 2.12 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched before being promoted to double A Frisco.
Over this season, David has been with three different teams. He had a 1-6 record. David went 1-3 with Frisco where he had a 3.86 ERA in five starts with 36 strikeouts. With AAA Round Rock, Davalillo was 0-3 with a 7.59 average over six starts, striking out 17 with 21 walks, which sent him down to the Arizona Complex League where he had a 3.00 in just one start before being added to the Burgers’ roster on Thursday.
He would get a start right away opposite right hander Jose Urbina (4-3, 4.10). The first inning for Davalillo produced mixed results as he struck out two and walked a pair in a scoreless frame. Like Izack Tiger last night, the 2nd inning did not fare nearly as well.
Carlos Colmenarez drew a walk with one out followed by a Jose Perez single. Juanfel Peguero laid down a sac bunt towards third but the throw to first was misplayed for an error by Figuereo, plating a run. Aidan Smith then really made that hurt when he sent one to the berm for a three run blast. The next two were set down on a strikeout and a grounder to short, but the Hot Rods led 4-0.
That lead doubled over the next two innings as Davalillo surrendered 5 (four earned) on four hits to go with three walks and four strikeouts over two and a third innings. Kamdyn Perry gave up four more in the fourth before Hub City’s dormant bats came to life.
Chandler Pollard led off with a double to left. Yeison Morrobel followed with a towering blast that nearly cleared the top of the video board in right field. With one out, it was almost Déjà vu as Luke Hanson doubled followed by a two run shot off the face of the board from Maxton Martin. Figuereo and Antonis Macias went down in order to end the inning, but the Spartanburgers had pulled back into “slam range” down 8-4.
Kamdyn Perry settled down nicely after that, finishing with three straight scoreless frames, putting his line at 4 innings, four earned on four hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts. That allowed the bats to keep cranking their way back into the game.
The Rods got a run back in the fifth on a sac fly after a leadoff walk and a two base errant pickoff. In the bottom half, Stark walked with one out. Morrobel later reached on a fielding error charged to the second baseman with two away. Osorio capitalized with a three run blast that cut the deficit to two. Maxton Martin later made it a one run game with his second dinger of the day to start the bottom of the sixth.
Kai Wynyard tossed the last two innings, with his lone blemish being a solo homer from Ryan McCoy with two out in the top of the eighth. Wynyard struck out five and walked one in that span to help the Burgers have a chance down 10-8.
Garate started a potential ninth inning rally by reaching on a dropped pop up. But the next three went down on a strikeout and back to back fly balls to drop a fourth straight, subsequently making for eight losses in the last nine for the Burgers.
Joe Adametz (2-5, 5.54 ERA) faces right hander Trevor Harrison (1-1, 5.29) with first pitch for game four set for 7:05 PM.
