Broome

2026 Football Preview: Broome

After finishing 5-6 overall and 2-2 in region play last season, the Broome Centurions enter 2026 looking to take the next step. The Centurions reached the postseason before falling to Pendleton in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs. Now, with several key contributors returning, Broome hopes to turn last year’s experience into a deeper playoff run.

Replacing quarterback Jameson Dearybury will be one of the biggest challenges for the Centurions. Senior Brayden Simpson is expected to step into the starting role after moving from wide receiver to quarterback late last season following Dearybury’s injury. Simpson gained valuable experience during that stretch, and Broome hopes that time under center will make for a smooth transition this fall.

The running game should once again be a strength. Cam McGill returns for his senior season, while Devon Brown gives the Centurions another proven option in the backfield. Broome also welcomes back Corley Turner, who returns after battling injuries. Turner has seen time at quarterback, wide receiver and safety during his career, making him one of the most versatile players on the roster.

Up front, the Centurions will lean on Carson Taylor and Kelvin Crook to lead an experienced offensive line. Their ability to create running lanes and protect a first-year starting quarterback will go a long way in determining Broome’s success.

While Broome returns plenty of talent, replacing production won’t be easy. Along with Dearybury, the Centurions graduated TyQwon Booker, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards a season ago, and Asher Littlejohn, a North-South All-Star who was one of the team’s top playmakers. Several younger players will be asked to step into larger roles as Broome looks to replace that production.

The Centurions have built their program around the “BAM” (Be A Man) philosophy, and that mentality will be tested this season as new faces are counted on to make an impact.

The schedule features plenty of challenges, beginning with the season opener against Woodruff. Road trips to Chesnee, Woodmont, Emerald and Riverside will test Broome before region play begins. The Centurions will also face Union County, Blue Ridge, Christ Church Episcopal and Chapman in what should once again be a competitive region race.

After a five-win season in 2025, Broome believes it has the pieces to contend for another playoff berth. How quickly the new starters settle into their roles will likely determine whether the Centurions can take the next step in 2026.
