2026 Football Preview: Spartanburg

The 2025 Spartanburg Vikings finished the season 7-5 overall and 5-2 in Region play, ending the season at Ridge View in the 2nd round of the 5A Playoffs.  In that loss, Spartanburg suffered several injuries including to QB Trey Burke, a theme which really summarized the season.

Spartanburg had several great moments, including a game winning 51 yard FG from Will Love to defeat Dorman for the 5thstraight year. But injuries derailed a promising year including one game when 8 starters on Defense didn’t play.

For 2026, the question isn’t do they have enough talent, but can we stay healthy enough.  Success will certainly center around one of the best RBs to ever come through Spartanburg, Senior Trenton Lynch.  He suffered an injury last season but still tallied 1475 yards on the season and is now 1034 yards from passing Carnie Norris for the all time school record.

In the backfield, Lynch will be joined by Jr QB Chris Colin, a star pitcher for the baseball team who made a run to the Upperstate Championship last season.  Colin appeared in multiple games last year, including 2 starts as well as a TD drive late in the playoff game against Ridge View.  Colin is a good combination of a passer and runner and will be called upon to use his mobility.

The Vikings lost 4 of its top 5 WRs last season in terms of receptions, but Sr Skyler Douglas has been terrific this offseason and during 7 on 7 events.

Defensively, the Vikings were hurt the most at LB last season, losing up to 5 guys who had started games by the end of the season.  One of the young stars was rising Sr LB Isaiah Lipscomb, who suffered a leg injury in the 2nd game of the year.  He along with Jr Chance McCree form a very strong Linebacker core for the Vikings.

Keep an eye on DE #7 Tryon Duncan this season. This young man has a ton of talent and when you line him up next to Kemareon Davis, the DL should be a real strength of this Defense.

In the Secondary, to more JRs had a ton of playing time as Sophomores…CB Jayden Brown and Safety Sentell Hall. Both were huge parts of the team last season and Hall was one of the few players on Defense who didn’t suffer a season ending injury.

The Vikings have an incredibly challenging schedule which you can check out above here on our website.
