Its already week 4 of the High School Football season and with several games under teams belt, teams are starting to look to put everything together and start playing some consistent football. Let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A ranks in our local listening area.
Broome @ Emerald
The Broome Centurions are not having the start of the season they would have liked as they have now fell to 0-3 with their latest loss to the hands of Woodmont 56-13. This game was one that simply just got away from the Centurions early and they jut could never get themselves back into the game. And it doesn’t get any easier this week as they will be on the road taking on the Emerald Vikings on Friday Night, who are unbeaten so far this season.
Emerald picked up a very impressive victory last week over a strong Woodruff Wolverine last Friday Night. They beat the Wolverines pretty easily, which was shocking not that they won but by the way the won as they were in complete control earlier on and cruised to the win.
For me this game is pretty simple Broome is not clicking right now and I don’t see this week coming together for them this week against a team that is rolling right now look for Emerald to remain unbeaten after this one.
Clinton @ Chapman
Chapman is coming into this game feeling good about where they are this season with a 3-0 start this year remember they were a one win team last year. They had a solid test last week on the road against Seneca and they got the job done winning 27-13. They really did a great job defensively and gave Seneca nothing to work with.
Clinton is also coming into this game with a lot of momentum as they are sitting at 2-0 and picked up a win last week against a strong Newberry team 39-28. Owen Glenn their QB did a ton of damage to the Newberry defense with his legs as he rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns, he also threw for a touchdown.
This is another test for the Panthers and I feel like it will be a good back and forth game, but I am leaning towards Clinton getting the win, There is a lot of experience for this Clinton team and I think that will give them a slight edge in this matchup.
Chesnee @ RS Central
The Chesnee Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season with a win against Columbia last Friday Night as they simply jumped all over Columbia and went up 42-0 at the half. The second half with the running clock made the half over in a blink of an eye and the Eagles would simply go onto win 42-0.
RS Central is 2-1 on their season as they are coming off a loss against Asheville. They struggled to get stops last week as they allowed 62 points. They couldn’t stop the run as they allowed Asheville running back Shiloh Mukendi to rush for 343 yards and three touchdowns on just 17 carries.
Central can score they put up 31 points and in their first two games they scored 52 and 51 points, so offensively they can make plays and extends drives, but can they get stops will be the questions. I look for both teams to be able to move the ball and put up points this game will come down to who is able to string together stops and I seen that so far Chesnee has been able to do that so I am giving them the slight edge.
Union @ Woodruff
The Union Yellow Jackets fell to 0-3 last week as they loss to the Chester Cyclones by a final score of 22-6. The Yellow Jackets did get on the scoreboard and took a 6 nothing lead but they just continue to not get anything going offensively. Defensively they showed some improvements and did get some stops but they just couldn’t muster up any offense.
Woodruff as mentioned earlier suffered their first loss of the season as they were beaten by Emerald 52-31. They couldn’t stop Emerald, who made big plays after big plays all night. The good news for Woodruff was that their offense was still productive and put up a good amount of points.
I look for Woodruff to bounce back and pick up a win in dominating fashion and get back into the win column this Friday Night.
MVP @ Gray Colligate
MVP fell to 0-2 last week and if I am not mistaken its the first time in short history they lost back to back regular season games, but they fell to May River last week 56-38. May River came into the game with some offensive issues turning over the ball but they had no issues last week so MVP has something that they are working through.
Gray Collegiate is not playing as well as they have in the past as they are coming into this game with 1-2 record and are also coming off a loss to James Island losing 41-20. They allowed over 300 yards passing and four touchdowns last week in the loss so they have things in their secondary.
Both teams are trying to figure things out and get on a roll I think both teams will have their opportunities in this one but I am leaning towards Gray Colligate at home to get the win.
