We have still made it through three weeks without a full Friday of weather non-sense (stupid heat). But we got to play all four quarters of every game on the same day, which is a beautiful thing. Week 4 is on the horizon. Let’s dive in.
Boiling Springs @ Clover (Thu)
The Boiling Springs Bulldogs are 3-0 after a come from behind win at home last week against Catawba Ridge. Boiling Springs entered halftime down 13-7 and entered the fourth quarter down 23-14, but found a way to score 20 fourth quarter points including the game-winning touchdown in the last two minutes to win 34-30.
QB Imri Logan went 14-19 for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air, and also rushed for 60 yards on 10 carries and 2 more touchdowns. With Catawba Ridge driving to burn the clock and win CJ Birk snagged his second interception of the game to get the ball back on the short field with 2:36 left, a few plays later Logan ran it in for the go ahead touchdown. The Copperheads had one last chance and was driving to the Boiling Springs 39 yard line, Jamarcus Means intercepted the third pass of the game for the Bulldogs to ice the win.
The Clover Eagles are 1-2 this season with its lone win coming against Westwood in Week 2 by a final score of 27-0. The Eagles dropped a Week 1 game at Fort Mill 28-7 and Week 3 against Palisades (NC) 18-10 last Friday. QB Aaron Shealy and RB Grady Stone pace the offense. Damenion Talford already has 6 TFLs and 3 sacks, and should continue to put pressure on Logan in the pocket.
Greer @ Byrnes
Greer and Byrnes meet up in another edition of the cross-town rivalry at Nixon Field this weekend. The Rebels are off of a bye, and before that a loss at Dorman, while the Yellow Jackets are off to a red-hot start at 3-0 and have averaged 52 points per game to start the year.
Byrnes battled with the Cavaliers two weeks ago, but couldn’t get enough to win on the road in a 35-21 defeat. QB Gideon Merhib sparked the Rebels when he came in in the first quarter and played the rest of the game, but struggled to operate late with RBs Tre Segarra and Jacobie Fuller unavailable. WR Chanin Harris caught 3 balls for 90 yards and a touchdown in the loss.
Greer QB Xavier Sammet has been blistering through the air and on the ground to start the season, completing 74% of his passes for 574 yards, 7 touchdowns and no interceptions, while rushing for 257 yards and another 3 touchdowns. That’s not to leave out RB Calvin McCoy, who leads the area in rushing with 450 yards and 7 touchdowns. Last week Greer beat Blue Ridge 59-13 at home.
Dorman @ Gaffney
The Dorman Cavaliers hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Gaffney Indians in a matchup of two undefeated teams. Gaffney is 3-0 off of a win against Lancaster, and Dorman is off of a bye.
Dorman is 2-0 and coming off of a win against Byrnes and a bye week. In a 35-21 win, Dorman’s Ja’Bez Thomas was named our player of the week with two interceptions, four tackles, 9 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown. QB Cooper Patterson delivered a win in his first ‘big game’ start, and RBs Nick Means and Carter Nash provided typical excellent rushing in the Cavaliers win.
The Gaffney Indians beat Lancaster last week 28-13 to move to 3-0 on the season. The Indian defense notched 6 TFLs and 3 sacks, Ayden Montgomery had an interception and Zion Dawkins recovered a fumble. Kendaris Bailey paced the offense with 9 carries and 102 yards for 2 touchdowns in the win.
