Its already week 6 of the High School Football season its crazy how fast it just seems to move each year. The strange year continues by the way as for the fifth straight week we were affected by the weather, which made it another long Friday Night. But hopefully this week we can get a normal Friday Night. Lets take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A games in our listening area.
Broome @ Riverside
The Broome Centurions played two games this past week because they had to play on Monday, which they lost to Emerald and then they had to turn around and play Powdersville on Friday and it didn’t go well for them as they lost 49-0. So now they will shift their attention to trying to pick up their first win of the season against Riverside.
Riverside is having a tough season as well as they are sitting at 0-4 and they are coming off their open week. Their previous game they loss in a heartbreaker to Eastside 20-14 basically at the end of the game.
Both teams are desperate for a win and both should have their opportunities in this one. But with teams struggling its hard to see how this game will play out.
Chapman @ Wade Hampton
The Chapman Panthers passed another test this Friday Night as they hosted the Woodruff Wolverines, so whatever has come their way so far this season they have rolled right past them showing they are for real after their one win season a year ago. They took down Woodruff 35-22 but really the game never felt close. Now they will shift their focus to an improved Wade Hampton team.
Wade Hampton is coming into this game with a 2-2 record but their latest loss was to Eastside last week 28-24. They did allow Eastside to have some success through the air and allowed several big plays that were the difference.
Wade Hampton has shown improvement from a year ago but this Chapman Panther team is simply on another level and will cruise to a victory in this one.
Blue Ridge @ Chesnee
The Chesnee Eagles bounced back from their lost against RS Central from a couple of weeks ago by dominating Blacksburg 48-6. Watching the stream form the game it was one big play after another for the Eagles as they were the far superior team in every aspect of the game and they will look to do that again against Blue Ridge.
Blue Ridge Tigers are coming off a loss to Pickens last week 42-21 and their record is now sitting at 1-4 but I can assure you they are much better than the record shows. They have been dealing with some injuries but they have been in just about every game with a chance to win it so far with the exception of their matchup against Greer.
I am teacher and Coach at Blue Ridge so I will not be declaring who I think will win this game to avoid any conflict of interest but I will offer some keys. Blue Ridge will have to find a way to slow down the Chesnee offense that features several weapons and they must take care of the football. Blue Ridge had 3 turnovers last week, which helped Pickens pull away.
Blacksburg @ Landrum
The Landrum Cardinals didn’t start their game until after 9 o’clock last week as a storm rolled on through and then before they started play they did their Home Coming festivities but once the game started you can see the game was going to be over quick as the Cardinals crushed Ware Shoals 60-0.
Blacksburg as mentioned were defeated easily against Chesnee last week as they couldn’t get a stop nor get anything going offensively and they are playing a Cardinal team now that was absolutely rolling last week.
I think this is another game that Blacksburg takes one on the chin and the Landrum Cardinals pick up another victory perhaps by running clock fashion.
Union @ Lancaster
The Union County Yellow Jackets are coming off another lopsided loss but to give them credit they play a difficult non-region schedule. They certainly don’t back down from a challenge and I respect that. They fell to Clinton 61-6 and things don’t get easier this week against Lancaster.
Lancaster is 3-1 on the year and their only loss came from the Gaffney Indians in fairly close game they had it within a score until a late score helped the Indians pull away. Lancaster has been in close games all year but have beaten some really solid teams so they have been able to find ways to win.
I look for Lancaster to pick up their 4th win of the season and win by a comfortable margin. I really would love to see Union start establishing some momentum for region play but right now they just don’t seem to have the horses.
