Each Week following Spartanburg Viking Football games, I’m going to take a couple of days and think about the 3 most important things I saw on the field. Some good, some great, some not so good. I’ll try to break through what mattered, and what not to overreact to. So here’s 3 things from Week 6’s 39-34 win over Charlotte Latin.
1-Senior Running Back Trenton Lynch began the night in 4th place in the career rushing record race and after a 51 yard run on the first play for the Vikings’ Offense, he passed Mike Wannamaker for 3rd all time. In the 2nd half, on a 17 yard run to the right, Lynch would pass Stephen Davis to become 2nd all time in career rushing yards at Spartanburg High School. Lynch would finish the night with 262 yards on the ground and 2 total TDs. Trenton Lynch is just 173 yards away from passing Carnie Norris as the All time Leading Rusher in SHS history. Lynch now has 861 yards on the season.
2-The OL continues to improve but let’s give some love to the WRs and B.J Dawkins had a career high in receptions with 7 for 70 yards. Skyler Douglas had 3 for 85 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Colin and Aryan Desai combined to go 18-24 for 255 yards and 3 TD passes. It was the best passing game of the season and everyone stepped up in a big way this week.
3-One of my favorite players to watch this season is Junior LB Isaiah Johnson. He puts his head in almost every single pile and always is around the ball. Johnson had a career high 11 tackles against Charlotte Latin and now has 30 on the season. The other big shout out goes to Logan Lawson, who filled in at Safety this week and had 3 TD saving tackles including a massive one early in a one on one in open space at the 8 yard line. Lawson finished with a team high 12 tackles in the win. Add another double digit tackle day for Isaiah Lipscomb who had 10 Friday night…he now has a team high 58 on the season.
