Week 7 2A/3A Preview

The end of region play has come and that means its time for region play to determine who will make the state playoffs. Some regions have played some region games, but this is the first week that these games are in full force. Let’s take a look at the matchups from the 2A/3A ranks in our local listening area

Broome @ Union

The Broome Centurions fell to 0-6 on the season last week when they loss to Riverside by a final score of 28-13. Defensively they did string together some stop but the offense just couldn’t get anything going. Their 13 point came late in the ball game and gave them no real chance of getting back into the game.

Union County also fell for the sixth straight time as they lost to Lancaster 49-6. Union just has not been able to build any momentum on either side of the ball this year, but they have also played a really tough non-region schedule.

With both teams struggling, I’m sure they both feel like this is an opportunity to get into the win column and start off region play on the right foot on region play. I am leaning towards Broome getting this win I think they just got more horses to pull it out.

Chapman @ Blue Ridge

The Chapman Panthers rolled to another lopsided win to conclude their dominant run in the non-region part of their schedule with a win over Wade Hampton 47-0. Panthers are just coming out and smacking teams around, there has been zero playing around they have handled their business each and every week.

Blue Ridge is coming into this game at 1-5 and fell last week in their non-region finale to the Chesnee Eagles by a final score of 35-19. Part of the struggles for Blue Ridge has been injuries and they had quite a few more after Friday game and self inflicted wounds such as personal foul penalties and dropped passes.

This is a tough matchup when you are trying to get yourself going with Chapman that is clicking on all cylinders right now. Again I won’t pick a winner for this game and I will be attending it so I look forward to seeing in person the playmakers that Chapman has been featuring this season.

Chesnee @ MVP

The Chesnee Eagles as mentioned earlier defeated the Blue Ridge Tigers 35-19 it was a game that they pretty much were a step ahead throughout the game and were able to get their run game going as all five touchdowns were on the ground. They also took advantage of the Blue Ridge mishaps and now they look to continue their hot play inside the region.

MVP is coming off another off week but they did have big non-region win their last time out as they played a solid St. Josephs team that was playing at high level coming in that matchup and MVP jumped out to a big lead, they fought off any rally St. Joes tried to make and were able to hang on for the win.

I feel like this should be a very interesting game, I am leaning towards Chesnee due to seeing a little bit more consistency from them this year, but I would not be shocked to see if MVP gets the win.

Woodruff @ Landrum

The Landrum Cardinals are coming off a loss to Blacksburg, it was game that started off with both teams not able to generate much offense, but Landrum made a couple plays and took a 14-0 lead. At that point it looked like they were going to cruise to a victory but Blacksburg found life in the second half and outscored the Cardinals 25-0 to win the game.

The Woodruff Wolverines are coming off a bye week as they are looking to bounce back from their loss to the Chapman Panthers by a final score of 35-22. It really was a game they were a step behind throughout and the Panthers had complete control all the way through.

I think Woodruff will bounce back and win this game comfortably as the Cardinals have really struggled in their region games the last couple of years and I think those struggles will continue on Friday night.
