Dorman 28 Fort Mill 24
Of all the teams we had undefeated coming into region play this week, Dorman seems to be one of the most heavily tested. The Cavaliers have found themselves in a tight battle down the stretch in most of their games this season so far. As a matter of fact, they found themselves trailing by double digits.
The Cavaliers turned the ball over three times, and the Yellow Jackets capitalized on each one with 21 points. At the half, Dorman trailed 17-7. But they were able to overcome it thanks to Nick Means.
Dorman scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter — one on an 11 yard pass from Cooper Patterson to Daision Watkins-Hymes and another on a 20 yard run from Means. But, Fort Mill reclaimed the lead by taking advantage of an interception with a 21 yard touchdown pass in the waning seconds of the third period, making for a 24-21 edge that held until the 6:24 mark of the fourth quarter. You guessed it. Nick Means did it again, scoring from 14 yards out to make for the final margin.
Means amassed 261 yards on 36 carries and a pair of TDs, averaging 7.3 yards per rushing attempt. Anthony Peaks also had a touchdown reception, totaling three snags for 34 yards while Watkins-Hymes hauled in three balls for 25 yards. Patterson went seven for 17 through the air for 59 yards and a pair of scores with an interception.
Next week, the Cavaliers will face yet another tough test as they host the Northwestern Trojans, who absolutely dominated Boiling Springs 58-3 to deal the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.
Boiling Springs actually drew first blood in that game, stalling a long game-opening drive inside the 25 yard line and settling for the field goal. Northwestern showed off their quick strike ability by taking a shot down field on their first play from scrimmage to set them up inside the Boiling Springs five yard line and punching it in a play later. After a three and out during which Bulldog QB Imri Logan left the game, the Trojans went down the field again to go up 14-3. The Bulldogs’ next best scoring chance was also the only one they had the rest of the way when the ensuing kickoff was returned to the Northwestern 31, but BSHS ended up turning the ball over on downs.
The Trojans piled on from there with what would total out to 58 unanswered points.
Boiling Springs, now 5-1 and 0-1 in region play, will go right back to District Three Stadium next week as they take on the Rock Hill Bearcats, who started region 2-5A play with a 42-23 win over Spartanburg.
Trenton Lynch came into the night needing around 170 yards to break Carnie Norris’ all-time Spartanburg High School rushing yard record that had stood for 48 years. He was able to chip away and surpass the mark on the last play of the first half — a 51 yard run that was stopped four yards shy of being a touchdown. Despite his strong half, Spartanburg was their own worst enemy, moving the ball with ease just to turn it over and then give up a big play.
The Bearcats led the Vikings 14-10 at the half, but it did not take long out of the break for Lynch to not only add to his record, but also give Spartanburg their first lead, capping a four play, 35 yard drive with a four yard touchdown run. After 14 unanswered from Rock Hill, Lynch notched a second score — this time from five yards out to cut the deficit to five after a failed two point try. That was as close as things ever got as the ‘Cats scored 14 more unanswered to pull away to the win.
Spartanburg was led by Lynch with 252 yards on 31 touches and a pair of scores. Tre’Gan Mickler had the lone receiving touchdown to go with five catches for 76 yards. Quarterback Aryan Desai, who got the start over a banged up Chris Colin, completed 10 of 25 passes for 162 yards and a score.
The Vikes will look for a bounceback next week as they host Fort Mill.
Byrnes 49 Hillcrest 21
The Rebels rolled to their first region 1-5A win on the road. Tre Segarra ran for 151 yards on 19 carries while Jacobie Fuller tabbed 87 yards on 14 touches. Quarterback Gideon Merhib completed 10 of 17 passes for 128 yards. Backup QB Walker Burdette completed his only pass attempt for 75 yards. Isaiah Robinson hauled in two passes for 77 yards.
The Rebels will host the Mauldin Mavericks next week looking to go to 2-0 in the region.
Gaffney 54 Wade Hampton 7
Yes. The Generals scored. And it came on a pick six. Other than that, the Indians scalped them to cruise to 1-0 in region 2-4A.
Amire White tallied 109 rushing yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Blake Cochran was not far off with 95 yards and a score on eight touches. Deron Exum also had a rushing score on his lone carry — a 74 yard run. Kareem Shaw was the lone back with multiple scores with two on five attempts for 73 yards. QBs Corey Taylor and Nikese Young mustered a TD each — both for a yard on their only carry. Taylor was nine of 15 for 91 yards and an interception.
The Indians will hit the road to Dooley Field next week to take on Greer, who was also mollywalloped in their region opener, dropping a 61-28 decision on the road at Sirrine Stadium in Greenville. Calvin McCoy did not play for the Yellow Jackets, which would not help their case against a Red Raider offense that thrives on offense. Greenville QB Kiishun Farrow proved to be a pest, completing 22 of 31 passes for a whopping 380 yards and seven touchdowns.
The score was only close once and that is when the Jackets scored 14 unanswered in the middle of the second quarter. They scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter, but could not keep Greenville off the board, being out scored 34-14 down the stretch.
Xavier Sammet had to carry a lot of the load for Greer, going 50% through the air (16-32) for 166 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball 18 times for 188 yards and a score. Zy Foster was the second leading rusher with a pair of TDs on 13 touches for 125 yards. Terrell Jackson had the lone other score, coming as part of a two catch, 58 yard game. Tyler Hanson was the leading receiver with eight snags for 65 yards.
Chapman hung a 50 burger on Blue Ridge en route to a 7-0 record. The Panthers have been more than a pleasant surprise this season with an explosive offense that has been and still is red hot, and does not show any signs of slowing down. The phenomenal Ashton Moore went 17-26 through the air for 254 yards and five touchdowns. Keilon Tucker hauled in four of those for 97 yards while Eric Gaffney pulled down six passes for 70 and Grayson Murphy tallied 45 yards on two catches. Brayden Williams led the ground game with 69 yards on 15 carries while Teagan Cantrell had 15 rushes for 67 yards.
The Panthers return home next week for the first of back to back road games, hosting Christ Church.
Broome 28 Union 0
The Yellow Jackets and Centurions met in a situation nobody wants to find themselves in — winless to start region play. Both teams have their issues. For Broome, it has been the injury bug, which had taken out their quarterback Brayden Simpson for most of the season so far. He made his return, which no doubt was a key difference in the Centurions finally finding the win column in 2026.
Simpson was 15 for 19 passing with 104 yards, a touchdown, and an interception to go with five rushes for 24 yards. Mario Garcia was the leading rusher with 12 carries for 125 yards and a score. Leland Garcia also had a rushing TD on five rushes for 23 yards. Corley Turner led the aerial attack with six catches for 50 yards and a touchdown.
The Centurions come back home to face Blue Ridge next Friday while Union will be on a bye.
MVP 45 Chesnee 42
In what was the most anticipated matchup this week, two good offenses butted heads at North Greenville University in the region openers for Chesnee and Mountain View Prep.
The matchup was speed vs physicality, and both sides showed out. The Eagles put up over 500 yards of total offense and rallied back from a late two-score deficit to pull within three in the final minute. But, the Stars held on after recovering an onside kick and later converting a first down on third and short to run Chesnee out of timeouts.
Evan Reece-Lawter tallied 219 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns to go with 120 passing yards and a score on a perfect seven for seven night. Brymier Miller logged 110 rushing yards on 19 carries with a pair of touchdowns while Marquez Franklin had 53 on 10 attempts. Max Cantrell caught the lone TD pass — a 27 yard strike for his only reception, which made him the top receiver.
MVP quarterback Jacob Kelly completed 10 of 14 passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns while running for two more scores on a 14 carry, 22 yard night. Savion Booker caught two of those in a six reception, 97 yard game. Cam Martin hauled in the other from 12 yards out for his only catch. Martin also ran for 98 yards on 16 carries.
The Eagles have three straight home games coming up, starting with Clinton this coming week. Mountain View takes on Landrum, who was blanked 49-0 by Woodruff.
The Wolverines took a commanding 28-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, slinging the ball around with ease in this game. Connor Davis accumulated 415 passing yards and 5 touchdowns, completing 12 of 14 attempts. MiCah McClintock had five receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown, Curtis Bell logged 93 and a score on two catches, Jalen Lyles had a 74 yard TD snag, and Mason Satterfield added a 34 yard TD reception.
Lyles led the rushing game with eight carries for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Ian Patterson accounted for most of the Cardinals’ offensive numbers, running the ball 19 times for 80 yards and going 7-16 passing with 80 yards and two interceptions.
Woodruff will stay home this coming week as Southside Christian comes to WL Varner Stadium.
